The transition to Hispanic Outreach
Mindy and I are very thankful to have had this opportunity
of transition in ministry. We didn’t know what exactly to think at first, but
we now see God’s plan in it all. Now that we are about 2 months into the
transition, we are starting to see why God has brought us to this ministry. As
we are meeting with people within the ministry, we are starting to see a great
need for people to be trained to do ministry in their personal lives. Just as we had vision for
training students in life-on-life discipleship and ministry, we are now
realizing that we can have the same vision amongst the Hispanic ministry. We
are really excited to have a chance to walk along side people who already have
a great desire for ministry, but they don’t feel all that equipped.
In the past two weeks, I have started to teach the Hispanic
Sunday school. I am walking through “The Master Plan of Evangelism” by Robert
E. Coleman. I have found that the book is a great starting point for people to
recognize the necessity for personal ministry wherever they are at; it helps by
setting a stage for ministry by breaking down the way that Jesus did ministry.
It helps as a framework for people to realize that they already have ministry
opportunities where they live, work and play. I am really excited to continue
to work through the book, as I have already gotten great response from people
within the ministry and have already had opportunities to meet with people
within the ministry to help them strategize what their next steps can be.
I am praying that God would give me a few individuals or
families in which I can really help to train up so that they will have the
capacity to help follow up with and train other people we might see come into
the church through our outreach efforts.
There is an intern with the Hispanic
ministry who has been involved with Campus Outreach as he has been a student
here in the cities. We have been going to local parks and playing soccer
with people from the neighborhood(s) surrounding the parks; a large number of
these people are Hispanic, and we see it as a great opportunity to develop relationships with people here in the city.
I would love if you would pray for Eric and Laura Evans, one
of the couples involved in the Hispanic ministry, who have a great desire to
start doing ministry in their personal lives and who have asked for us to spend
time with them helping to teach them how to initiate meaningful relationships
with people they are around. I would also love if you could pray for me as I
continue to work on and learn Spanish through Rosetta Stone. We would also love
for you to be praying for Vivienne as she is growing and would ask that you
would pray for God to be softening her heart, even now, that she might see
Jesus as her savior and would put her trust in him.
Sorry for the delay in keeping you updated on how things are
going. We are so thankful for you all!
