Campamento de Familia

Our little family had our first family camp experience! As you know, we work with the Hispanic Ministry and we took several families to a camp in WI called Riverside Bible Camp. It was so fun! We left Friday evening, drove for five hours (well, technically it's only four hrs away, but we got lost. Oops!) and got there late in the evening. Viv did great on the long drive! She's such a good baby.

It was so much fun to spend time with the Hispanic families. Brian and I both got to work on our Spanish. I was really impressed with how much Brian has learned since he began learning 4 months ago! He can carry a basic conversation now! Vivi loved all the hugs and snuggles she got from her new friends and is probably going to go through withdrawals from not being held all the time now that we are home.We love that she is going to grow up knowing two languages!

It was also a really sweet time to get away from the craziness of home to spend time as a family and evaluate how we are doing spiritually, emotionally and physically as parents. This is a full time job and we want to make sure we are relying on the Lord for our strength. It was also super awesome to get to know many Hispanic families better. Now that Brian is better at speaking Spanish, we feel like we can attempt to spend some more intentional time with people. Brian spent the whole drive up and back home sitting next to a guy named Juan. In broken English and Spanish they talked about everything from tongue twisters to parenting to the Gospel. Later that week we went to lunch with Juan, his wife Nancy and their son César. We had a sweet conversation about sharing the Gospel and whether we obey out of duty to the Law or we obey because of our love of the Lord. We are saved and therefore we obey; not, we obey and are therefore saved.

Please pray:
  • the Lord to allow Brian to learn Spanish quickly.
  • for our new relationships with Hispanic families - specifically Juan, Nancy and César.
  • for our couples group that we will be leading beginning this fall. There are two other young couples within the ministry that have a strong desire to lead others and live their life doing Ministry. The Jerez family will likely be moving to the Dominican Republic after this year and the Evans desire to do long term missions in Kirghistan. We will be working through The Meaning of Marriage by Tim Keller.
