As you may remember,
we really loved family camp last year! This year we knew would be even more fun because we have started to form some really neat relationships with some of the families. We realized, however, that Lucielle would only be 2.5 weeks old at the time of camp. We weighed the pros and cons of traveling 4 hours into Wisconsin with a 16 month old and a 2 weeks old. We decided it was worth it!
We knew that the only way to survive was to each be responsible for one kid. Brian had Viv for the weekend, and Mindy had Lucielle. That way, we were each able to interact with the other families. It was a lot of work, but totally worth it! Brian was able to spend a lot of time with a guy named Pedro and his family. They have a four year old daughter named Jaime who Vivienne LOVED! She called her name, followed her around and gave her hugs over and over. Jaime eventually warmed up to Viv and enjoyed carrying her around so much that she told her parents she wanted a baby haha. Everyone loved having baby Lucielle around and Mindy had more than enough willing hands to hold Lulu. I think both girls went through a bit of a "social detox" upon returning home.
Brian's Spanish is really coming along! He has been studying with a good friend several hours a week and the improvement is obvious. His level of Spanish is about equal to some of the families level of English so they are actually able to communicate pretty well. Even little Vivienne is learning Spanish. She can say a few words and responds to some command much to the delight of some of the families. Their favorite was when we say "chóquela" which means "pound it or hit it" and Viv would make a fist and give fist bumps to everyone.
All in all it was an exhaustingly fun weekend at camp! We loved getting time around families in a relational context before the craziness of a new school year begins.
Please pray for:
- Brian's learning of Spanish and Mindy's confidence to speak it to continue to grow
- Our relationships with Pedro and his family and several other family to deepen
- Mindy's transition into a stay at home mommy of two!
- Our financial support team to expand. We love what we do and don't want money to dictate whether or not we can do it as a family of four!
